Successful writers tend to spend most of their time in this stage. Almost all failed writers underestimate or just skip this stage. Character is structure. You MUST recognise this in the development of your scripts.

This blog started when a certain analysis of Michael Mann’s THE INSIDER sparked my frustration. Discussing BLADE RUNNER in a story workshop recently, I felt I was close to doing the exact same thing. To this date I don’t fully agree with her INSIDER analysis but Linda Aronson taught me this: to learn story, you will have to be ready to tear your favourite films apart.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
This one day intensive and entertaining workshop teaches the difference between scripts with potential and those that are just a fun read. Do you really know what the ‘3-act-structure’ stands for? What could save your screenplay, that even Michael Hauge didn’t know? The workshop is packed with clips from recent and classic movies and at the end you have a better understanding of story than any book will teach you.

GETTING TO THE CENTRE
Catch the 445 bus from Petersham station or the 440 from Circular Quay or anywhere along George Street. Get off at the Cecily Street entrance to Rozelle Hospital in Balmain Road and follow the signs to the Centre from the entrance. It’s a 5-minute walk.

Take a bus from Circular Quay, Wynyard or Town Hall towards Rozelle (500, 501, 502, 504, 505, 506, 507, 508, 510, 518, L03, L20, L39, X15) to the corner of Victoria Road and Darling Street. Walk up to Darling Street and turn left. Walk about 500 metres south along Darling Street until you get to the Cecily Street entrance of Rozelle Hospital.
